It was retitled Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes and Human Retrovirology (ISSN 1077-9450) in 1995, returning to the title Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes in 1999. [2] [3] It was originally published by Raven Press. [1] The journal was an official publication of the International Retrovirology Association until 2000.
The impact factor (IF) or journal impact factor (JIF) of an academic journal is a scientometric index calculated by Clarivate that reflects the yearly mean number of citations of articles published in the last two years in a given journal, as indexed by Clarivate's Web of Science.
In any given year, the CiteScore of a journal is the number of citations, received in that year and in previous three years, for documents published in the journal during the total period (four years), divided by the total number of published documents (articles, reviews, conference papers, book chapters, and data papers) in the journal during the same four-year period: [3]
In addition to the network-based SJR indicator, the SJR also provides a more direct alternative to the impact factor (IF), in the form of average citations per document in a 2-year period, abbreviated as Cites per Doc. (2y). [7] [8]
While these journals still did not receive an impact factor until the next year, they did contribute citations to the calculation of other journals' impact factors. [ 4 ] [ 5 ] In July 2022, Clarivate announced that journals in the ESCI obtain an impact factor effective from JCR Year 2022 first released in June 2023.
Author-level metrics are citation metrics that measure the bibliometric impact of individual authors, researchers, academics, and scholars. Many metrics have been developed that take into account varying numbers of factors (from only considering the total number of citations, to looking at their distribution across papers or journals using statistical or graph-theoretic principles).
The journal received its first impact factor of 3.256 in 2012, which rose to 6.296 in 2017 (2016 Journal Citation Reports ® Science Edition). In 2017, the journal was ranked 6th out of 84 infectious diseases journals and 22nd out of 150 immunology titles on the Science Citation Indexes.
