Almanzo Wilder lived out the rest of his life on his farm, and both he and his wife were active in various community and church pursuits during their time in Missouri. A visit by the school board restores order; however, Wilder leaves at the end of the fall term. For the winter term, Miss Wilder is replaced by Mr. Clewett.
