Gongshi (Scholar's rock) in Wenmiao temple, Shanghai. Gongshi (Chinese: 供石), also known as scholar's rocks or viewing stones, are naturally occurring or shaped rocks which are traditionally appreciated by Chinese scholars. [1] The term is related to the Korean suseok (수석) and the Japanese suiseki (水石).
The Thousand-Buddha Cliff (Chinese: 千 佛 崖; pinyin: Qiānfó Yá) is a historical site of mostly Tang dynasty rock carvings in central Shandong Province, China. Along a cliff face of 63 meters length, over 210 statues and 43 inscriptions have been reported. [1] Most of the statues were carved during 618–684. [1]
Standing at 36 metres in the Yangtze River, the Swallow Rock is shaped like a flying swallow and is also one of three famous rocks in Nanjing. Li Bai is thought to have visited and written a poem about Swallow Rock. [1] Swallow Rock is also of minor historical interest for several unrelated events.

Thousand Buddha Rock (Chinese: 夾江千佛岩) is a rock in Renshou County, Sichuan. It has over 21 different Buddhist carvings. [ 1 ] Many of the carvings were first made around the year 881 during the Tang dynasty , [ 1 ] with work extending into the Qing dynasty . [ 2 ]
The site also provides habitat for many vulnerable species, including the dhole, Asiatic black bear, and Chinese water deer. [1] The site is situated in Zhangjiajie City and lies about 270 kilometres (170 mi) to the northwest of Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province. The park covers an area of 690 square kilometers (266 square miles). [2]
The Tarim Block in North West China is a relatively thin zone of Precambrian rock and Neoproterozoic to Cambrian cover sequence that may be related to the South China Craton. [ 1 ] [ 23 ] The Precambrian units, like the South China Craton, also finished forming 0.8 billion years ago. [ 1 ]
