The church's steeple is currently the tallest point in downtown Newburyport, Massachusetts. The church building was constructed in 1801 by the First Religious Society, which was founded in 1725. Newburyport station is an MBTA Commuter Rail station in Newburyport, Massachusetts. It is located between Parker Street and U.S. Route 1 south of downtown Newburyport, and serves the Newburyport/Rockport Line. The station is the terminus of the Newburyport Branch of the line, with three parking lots totalling over 800 spaces.
Brown Square is a narrow rectangular park at the northern end of a city block on the west side of Newburyport's downtown, bounded by Titcomb, Pleasant, and Green Streets on the west, north, and south, and by Brown Square on the south. The Brown Square House occupies the western end of the block facing the park to the north.
In Newburyport, US 1 has a mile-long (1.6 km) freeway segment that bypasses downtown and the waterfront areas; Route 1A joins the freeway shortly before it crosses the Merrimack River, entering Salisbury and becoming a surface arterial again. Three miles (4.8 km) later, it enters the state of New Hampshire.
