The Gulf Cooperation Council Athletics Championship (also known as the GCC Athletics Championships) is a biennial international athletics competition between athletes from nations within the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf. It was first held in 1986.
The 3rd edition of the game had to be organized in June 2019, but held in 2022 due to the internal issues between the GCC state countries. The last edition organised by the GCC was the 30th edition in 2015, which featured twelve teams, while its attempts to organise the 31st edition failed. [ 1 ] The tournament was relaunched by the AGCFF for the 2024–25 season under the name AGCFF Gulf Club Champions League, featuring eight teams.
At its December 2022 meeting, the GCC approved Solon's departure for all sports except for football, citing difficulties scheduling with seven teams. Under the agreement, Solon football will play the 2023 season in the GCC while all other sports will begin play in the Suburban League. Football will join the Suburban League in 2024. [8]
