Ajay Banga was born on November 10, 1959, into a Punjabi Sikh Saini [15] family, in Khadki, Bombay State (now Khadki, Maharashtra), where his father, an army officer, was posted. [16] [17] His family is originally from Jalandhar, Punjab. His father, Harbhajan Singh Banga, is a retired lieutenant-general who served in the Indian Army. [18]
