In 1982, the U.S. became the first country to host three World Championship Grands Prix in one season. In addition to the United States Grand Prix West in Long Beach, California and the Las Vegas races, the new event was held in Detroit, Michigan on another street course encompassing the Renaissance Center, current headquarters of General Motors.
The results of each race are combined to determine two annual World Championships, one for drivers and one for constructors. Ferrari hold the record for the most Grand Prix victories, having won 248 times. McLaren are second with 189 wins, and Mercedes are third with 129 wins. [3]
