Monkey D. Luffy is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, and dreamt of being a pirate since childhood from the influence of his idol and mentor Red-Haired Shanks. At the age of 17, Luffy sets sail from the East Blue Sea to the Grand Line in search of the legendary treasure, One Piece, to succeed Gol D. Roger as "King of the Pirates".
Meanwhile in the mausoleum, an enraged Luffy breaks Crocodile's poisonous hook and defeats him. Back at the plaza, it begins to rain. With Chaka and Koza presenting the defeated Crocodile as the rebellion's orchestrator, the fighting stops. It rains for three days. After that, Luffy wakes up and a banquet is given for the pirates.

The Straw Hat crew manages to gain the trust of the people that attacked them, and are taken to the village, except for Zoro and Carue, who guard the ship. Luffy and Sanji must take Nami to the island's sole doctor who lives on a mountain-top. Vivi and Usopp discover the past of the island, and about the pirate Wapol from Dalton.

A battle begins between him and Luffy as he tries to figure out where exactly he left the map. At one point, Buggy puts Luffy in a tank of seawater in the hopes that he will reveal the map's location.
The famous beautiful pirate Cavendish makes an entrance and proceeds to explain to Luffy the rules of entertainment in the Colosseum, the nature and appeal of bloodsport, his past as a world-shaking pirate and lastly his intent to kill The Worst Generation for stealing his spotlight two years ago.
