Ludington (/ ˈ l ʌ d ɪ ŋ t ən / LUH-ding-tən) is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is the county seat and the largest city in Mason County. [5] The population was 7,655 at the 2020 census. [3] The city is located at the mouth of the Pere Marquette River at Lake Michigan.

The Mason County Courthouse is a square, Richardsonian Romanesque building constructed of dark red brick and reddish brown sandstone. The raised basement story is finished with rock-faced sandstone, and two upper floors are finished with brick, with a beltcourse, window sills, lintels, and other trim of the same sandstone.
Big Sable Point Light and Ludington State Park are located within the township along Lake Michigan. According to the United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of 34.40 square miles (89.10 km 2 ), of which 27.45 square miles (71.10 km 2 ) are land and 6.95 square miles (18.00 km 2 ), or 20.21%, are water.
