The Gasparilla Bowl is an annual NCAA-sanctioned post-season college football bowl game played in the Tampa Bay area. It was first played in 2008 as the St. Petersburg Bowl at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida , one of several new bowl games played in Major League Baseball venues.
In 2008, the NCAA announced that Tropicana Field would be host to a postseason college bowl game, bringing football to the dome. [90] The game, which eventually took on the name Gasparilla Bowl, was played inside Tropicana Field until 2017, after which the bowl organizers moved the annual contest to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. [91]

The 2018 Gasparilla Bowl was a college football bowl game played on December 20, 2018, [4] with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EST. [5] It was the 11th edition of the game originally known as the St. Petersburg Bowl and renamed before its 2017 playing as the Gasparilla Bowl, and one of the 2018–19 bowl games concluding the 2018 FBS football season.
