Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), before 2015 known as the Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU), is a public collegiate university in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was established as the Uttar Pradesh Technical University through the Government of Uttar Pradesh on 8 May 2000.
The Lucknow University Act, 1920, was later repealed by the Uttar Pradesh State Universities Act, 1973, [19] which redefined the governance and administration of universities in the state. The Canning College Act, 1922 [ 20 ] (Uttar Pradesh Act No. 7 of 1922) also played a role in this educational evolution.

The institute was formerly affiliated (1984–2000) to the University of Lucknow and from 2000 to 2012 to Uttar Pradesh Technical University.
The campus is spread in the city of Lucknow at Vidya Vihar, Raebareli Road, Lucknow – 226025 (Uttar Pradesh). The main campus is at Lucknow and spread over 250 acres which is eco-friendly environment for focused study. A satellite campus of the university is at Amethi and it runs mostly UG courses. The satellite campus was established in 2016.
