Ebbw Vale (/ ˈ ɛ b uː v eɪ l /; Welsh: Glynebwy) is a town at the head of the valley formed by the Ebbw Fawr tributary of the Ebbw River in Wales. It is the largest town and the administrative centre of Blaenau Gwent county borough. The Ebbw Vale and Brynmawr conurbation has a population of roughly 33,000.

Until 2021 the council was based at Ebbw Vale Civic Centre, which had been built in the 1960s for the former Ebbw Vale Urban District Council. In 2021 the council voted to demolish the civic centre and moved its meeting place and headquarters to the General Office building adjoining Ebbw Vale Town railway station. [23]
Ebbw Vale South is also an electoral ward, coterminous with the community, [2] which elects two councillors to Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council. A few days after being elected as an Independent councillor for the ward at the 2022 local election, Carl Bainton caused some controversy by changing his allegiance to Labour. [3]
For the other three urban sanitary districts the majority of the population was in Monmouthshire, which therefore gained from Brecknockshire the Beaufort and Rassau areas of Ebbw Vale, the Dukestown area of Tredegar, and the Llechryd area of Rhymney. The county council was based in Newport, rather than the historic county town of Monmouth.
