A bar of gold that has just been solidified in Gold Reef City. Gold Reef City is an amusement park in Johannesburg, South Africa.Located on an old gold mine which closed in 1971, [1] the park is themed around the gold rush that started in 1886 on the Witwatersrand, and the buildings in the park are designed to mimic this period.

The red line in the detail of the Johannesburg region shows the location of the scarp/ridge that gave the "Witwatersrand" its name; the purple line the location where the main gold bearing reef is exposed at the surface, just south of Johannesburg.
Johannesburg’s historic old fort stands in Kotzi Street on Hospital Hill, to the north of the city centre. In 1896 the Government of the South African Republic decided to build a fort round the existing prison. The prison was built already in 1892 and enlarged in 1894. The fort was completed in 1899 and handed over to the State Artillery.
