Bowling Green, city, seat (1866) of Wood county, northwestern Ohio, U.S., about 25 miles (40 km) south of Toledo. The site, originally a swamp wilderness, was first settled by Elisha Martindale in 1832. The town was laid out in 1835 and named for Bowling Green, Ky.
