The Higher National Diploma in Accountancy (HNDA) program is the first professional accounting course introduced in Sri Lanka. [ citation needed ] [ 35 ] It was started in 1943 as the National Diploma in Accountancy with the aim of detecting and preventing frauds, errors, and malpractices in Ceylon Tea Estates and Ceylon Railway.
The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses that award various degrees. In 2016 the university had 7,972 students and 1,342 employees. [2] It is the seventh largest university in Sri Lanka in student numbers. [2] In 2015/16 the university admitted 3,009 undergraduates. [3]
There are four postgraduate courses offered by the university. The degree of Master of the Science of Engineering (MSc.Eng.) is awarded after one year of full-time graduate study. [15] Postgraduate Courses in special subjects are conducted from time to time and these lead to a Diploma in Engineering.
