Raine was born Jessica Lloyd in Eardisley, Herefordshire, [1] where she was raised on her father's farm. [2] She is the younger of two daughters of farmer Allan Lloyd (descended from the Lloyd family of Baynham Hall, who were well known for generations as bonesetters alongside their farming activities), [3] [4] and his wife Sue.
Call the Midwife is a British period drama television series based on the best-selling memoirs of former nurse Jennifer Worth, who died shortly before the first episode was broadcast. [1] It is set in the 1950s and 1960s and for the first three series centred primarily on Jenny Lee (Jessica Raine), based on the real Worth.
She is best known for her work on Call the Midwife. Her character, Nurse Cynthia Miller, was in the initial cast of characters of season one. During the course of the show, Cynthia decided she was being called to a religious life, and she became a nun. Her character lived as a nun at Nonnatus House, where she also worked as a midwife. [4]
Since then, she has appeared as Avril Fox in the 2014 Christmas special of the BBC period drama Call the Midwife. She has also had roles in Holby City (2015), Death in Paradise (2016), Drifters (2016) and Casualty (2016). Connolly-Burnham made her stage debut playing a leading role in the 2017 theatre production Tribes at the Crucible Theatre. [4]
