The SR20DE is a 2.0 L (1,998 cc) DOHC engine. It was used in over 15 Nissan models, first appearing in the U12 Bluebird in October 1989. It was gradually phased out over time with the introduction of the low-emissions QR engine family in 2000, until production stopped in 2002.
It is a turbocharged version of the SR20DE engine and is a replacement of the CA18DET engine. Like with the outgoing CA18DET, the SR20DET was a turbocharged intercooled engine in top form. It was Nissan's popular four-cylinder turbocharged engine fitted into a wide variety of cars, most notably the S13-chassis Nissan Silvia and 180SX.
For example, the SR20VE engine has dual overhead camshafts, but the variable valve lift design of the camshafts takes precedence in the naming scheme even though the "V" feature designation doesn't necessarily describe a DOHC arrangement.
The camshafts from this engine are considered to be an upgrade for SR20VE owners. From 1997 to 1998, Nissan produced 500 limited-edition SR16VE N1 engines. These engines made 197 hp (147 kW). They had further upgraded camshafts, upgraded intake manifold using eight injectors and a larger 70 mm (2.8 in) throttle body.
The G20 was powered by the SR20DE Inline 4-cylinder. It was a transversely-mounted dual overhead cam naturally aspirated reciprocating internal combustion engine. Displacement was 2.0 L (1,998 cc) with a square bore × stroke ratio of 86 mm × 86 mm (3.39 in × 3.39 in).
