Two very good references for MBs are The Montblanc Diary, by Jens Rösler, and Collectible Stars, by Jens Rösler and Stefan Wallrafen. The Montblanc Diary lists pens up to 1949, and Collectible Stars discusses MBs up to 1979. Edited January 2, 2009 by niksch. Hard times don't last, but hard people do.
A nibmeister will set you back around $50 (maybe a bit less) per nib. The best I have seen 146 nibs is around $100 and that is rare. Though I have never had to d it myself, I remember reading that there is a minimum charge going through Montblanc directly and it's like $200-250.
Location:A clearing in the forest, Canada. Flag: Posted May 25, 2010. A little while ago I bought seven bottles of Herbin ink. They are without a doubt the most benign inks that you can get. Mont Blanc pens are very tough and their own black ink is an iron gall ink, which should only be used in a pen with a gold nib.
The cartridge pen is the one for the Diamine mixed carts that come with the bottled ink. The 220 is the MB that is in between vintage and modern. Turns out, i don't just have a 'thing' for fountain pens, but also for scarabs, black and gold, and everything ancient Egypt. Here are some picture, and a writing sample. In case you can't read my handwriting (a common phenomenon), here is my review in text: Montblanc Heritage Egyptomania - Black Fountain Pen. MB125492. Fine nib
Dear friends, I was able to acquire the new Montblanc 146 Le grand Calligraphy/flex fountain pen this week. Just thought I’d share some thoughts with you, after a few days worth of using it. Appearances-wise this is just a regular 146. The nib is of course the big difference here. And this nib really is true EEEF when writing with no pressure ...
There is no argument that both Montblanc and Pelikan make masterful pens. Beyond this MB spends a lot of money on marketing and bringing out special editions that look quite different than what I consider their core pens---the 146 and 149. Some of the special editions drift far from the brand's core and can appear hideous to some viewers.
