Dauphin County (/ ˈ d ɔː f ɪ n /; Pennsylvania Dutch: Daffin Kaundi) is a county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census , the population was 286,401. [ 2 ] The county seat is Harrisburg , [ 3 ] Pennsylvania's state capital and ninth-most populous city.

Pennsylvania Route 25 runs east–west through the township and passes through the center of Gratz. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 26.5 square miles (68.6 km 2), of which 0.01 square miles (0.02 km 2), or 0.03%, is water. [4]
Business directory map of Dauphin Borough in 1862. Dauphin was incorporated into a borough by an act of Assembly in 1845. [17] According to the 1850 census, Dauphin had 650 inhabitants at that time. There were 124 families in 118 dwellings. The 1860 census for the borough illustrated the working-class nature of the people living there.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 76) passes through the northern part of the borough, but the nearest access is 4 miles (6 km) west near Highspire. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.1 square miles (5.4 km 2), of which 2.0 square miles (5.3 km 2) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km 2), or 2.33%, is water.
