The structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places [ 3 ] in 1974 [ 1 ] and underwent a major renovation in 2010.

[2] The iron works, which had an anti-union leadership team, was bombed on Christmas Day 1910, most likely by Ortie McManigal, an associate of those responsible for the L.A. Times bombing two months earlier.
The company also platted a town around the furnace, naming it "Furnaceville". Soon after this, the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad built a station at the town. The furnace flourished, and in 1886 a group of businessmen from Grand Rapids bought out the company, and renamed the company Antrim Iron Works and the town Antrim.
