CSU Channel Islands University Park is adjacent to and owned by California State University, Channel Islands. It is usually closed to vehicle traffic, but the public is welcome to explore by foot. There is a dirt parking area just outside the gate.
In 2002, the state hospital was renovated and transformed into California State University, Channel Islands. The university library was funded in large by John "Jack" Spoor Broome (1918–2009), the grandson of William Richard Broome. John S. Broome took over management of the family citrus produce business, Rancho Guadalasca, in 1946.
