Today, the university has 9 Colleges (Faculties), training 2800 graduate and post-graduate students. The university has an exchange student program with Astrakhan State University in neighbouring Russia. [2] The university is located in the historical city of Gorgan in the Golestan Province.
Golestan province (Persian: استان گلستان) [a] is one of the 31 provinces of Iran, located in the northeast of the country and southeast of the Caspian Sea. Its capital is the city of Gorgan , [ 7 ] formerly called Esterabad until 1937.
The university came of age under the direction of Abdol Ghayoom Ebrahimi, who was the first university chancellor during 1988–2000.
