Kent State University (KSU) is a public research university in Kent, Ohio, United States.The university includes seven regional campuses in Northeast Ohio located in Ashtabula, Burton, East Liverpool, Jackson Township, New Philadelphia, Salem, and Warren, along with additional regional and international facilities in Cleveland, Independence, and Twinsburg, Ohio; New York City; and Florence, Italy.
Athletics at Kent State began shortly after the school was first organized in 1910 and the first classes held in 1912. The school's first sporting event was a men's basketball game in 1913 against Kent High School and the following spring (1914) the baseball team was organized, known as the "Normal Nine".
Kent State also operated what was known as a "model school" at the schoolhouse near Brady Lake, just east of Kent. The model school was intended to give teachers training in a rural setting. The high school was established in 1914, adding one grade level per school year. The first class graduated from the Kent Normal High School in 1918.
Kent State East Liverpool was established in 1965 as an academic outreach of Kent State located in the International Brotherhood of Operative Potters building. The former Salem High School building is now used by Kent State Salem as one of its campus buildings. Kent State Salem was established in 1962 as an outreach program housed at Salem High School . In 1966, it was relocated to an office building on South Broadway Street before it was moved to the permanent campus site in 1971. [ 4 ]
