Traverse City is the largest city in Northern Michigan. Traverse City is at the head of the East and West arms of Grand Traverse Bay, a 32-mile-long (51 km) bay of Lake Michigan. Grand Traverse Bay is divided into arms by the 18-mile-long (29 km) Old Mission Peninsula, which is attached at its base to Traverse City.

[3] Water Avenue signed a lease on a new roasting facility at Southeast 8th and Main in 2015, joining the flagship cafe Water Avenue and Southeast Taylor. Boardman Lake is a natural body of water, which would exist even without impoundment by the Union Street Dam, [16] along the course of the river, about a mile upstream from the river's mouth at Grand Traverse Bay. The lake is located within Traverse City and Garfield Township. This lake is also a popular recreational and fishing lake. [17]
The community was founded in 1868 as East Traverse Bay, renamed to Traverse Bay in 1873 and to East Bay in 1874. A post office at the location operated from 1868 to 1879. [ 5 ] Today, the community is largely urbanized, and is located nearby Traverse City State Park .
