The Free UCS Outline Fonts [1] (also known as freefont) is a font collection project. The project was started by Primož Peterlin and is currently administered by Steve White. UTF-8 is capable of encoding all 1,112,064 [2] valid Unicode scalar values using a variable-width encoding of one to four one-byte (8-bit) code units. Code points with lower numerical values, which tend to occur more frequently, are encoded using fewer bytes.
Each Unicode code point is encoded either as one or two 16-bit code units. Code points less than 2 16 ("in the BMP") are encoded with a single 16-bit code unit equal to the numerical value of the code point, as in the older UCS-2. Code points greater than or equal to 2 16 ("above the BMP") are encoded using two 16-bit code units.
