[1] The author, Richard Moll, graduated with a master's degree from Yale University in 1959, and served as an admissions officer as well as a director of admissions at several universities in the United States. The Little Ivies can be defined as the membership of the New England Small College Athletic Conference. The Public Ivies can be defined as those so identified in an influential 1985 book of that title. The Jesuit Ivy was defined by John F. Kennedy in a commencement speech.
