Lowestoft (/ ˈ l oʊ (ɪ) s t ɒ f t, ˈ l oʊ s t ə f / LOH-(ih)-stoft, LOH-stəf) is a coastal town and civil parish in the East Suffolk district of Suffolk, England. [1] As the most easterly UK settlement, it is 38 miles (61 km) north-east of Ipswich and 22 miles (35 km) south-east of Norwich, and the main town in its district.
The club was established in 1887 as Lowestoft FC by a merger of East Suffolk and the original Kirkley, and were renamed Lowestoft Town in 1890. They joined the Norfolk & Suffolk League as founder members in 1897, and won six of the first seven championships, [2] also playing in the North Suffolk League, where they also won six championships in seven seasons.
The largest town is Lowestoft, which contains Ness Point, the easternmost point of the United Kingdom. The second largest town is Felixstowe, which has the country's largest container port. Pakefield is a suburb of the town of Lowestoft, in the East Suffolk district of Suffolk, England. It is located around 2 miles (3.2 km) south of the centre of the town. It 2011 the ward had a population of 6,563. Pakefield has boundaries with Carlton Colville and Kirkley. It also borders the parish of Gisleham.
The town hall was the headquarters of Lowestoft Borough Council for much of the 20th century and continued to serve as the local seat of government when the enlarged Waveney District Council was formed in 1974. [5] Memorials were established in the town hall to commemorate the lives of two local people who were awarded the Victoria Cross. [2]

A relief road, the A1145, links Carlton Colville with the centre of Lowestoft whilst the A146 continues east. [2] The road terminates at a junction with the A1117 in Oulton Broad, just to the south of Oulton Broad South railway station.
