Whereas the town of St George's is surrounded by St George's Parish, Hamilton Parish and the city of Hamilton are not close to each other geographically. Saint George's, the larger of the two municipalities, served as Bermuda's capital until 1815 until the newly established Hamilton replaced it.

Gibbs Hill Lighthouse – the tallest building in Bermuda, visible from most points in the islands. Horseshoe Bay – Bermuda's most famous beach. Little Sound – a natural sheltered harbour, the southern section of the Great Sound - the body of water which is surrounded by the Bermuda chain. Church Bay – Bermuda's "best" snorkelling.
The city is named after Sir Henry Hamilton, governor of the territory from 1786 to 1793. Hamilton Parish antedates the city. The administrative capital of Bermuda, Hamilton, has a limited permanent population around 854 (2016); however in 2010, 13,340 (40% of Bermuda's working population) worked here on a daily basis.
