Kankakee River State Park is an Illinois state park on 4,000 acres (1,619 ha) primarily in Kankakee and Will Counties, Illinois, United States.Originally, 35 acres (14 ha) of land was donated by Ethel Sturges Dummer for the creation of the state park in 1938.
Kankakee River State Park is located along the river, northwest of Kankakee, Illinois. The 4,095-acre (16.57 km 2) Kankakee Fish and Wildlife Area is located in Indiana.
Because of this, the river has cut through the rock, forming a gorge, most of which is in the state park. A trail in the park follows the creek. The Rock Creek waterfall is approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 km) upstream from the main entrance of the state park and is on land owned by Camp Shaw-waw-nas-see, a private youth camp.

IL 102 runs parallel to and north of the Kankakee River for its entire length. For two miles (3.2 km), IL 102 is located next to the Kankakee River State Park. Entrances to the park's two major campgrounds are located off Illinois 102. IL 113 takes a mostly parallel route, but on the south side of the river.

The Kankakee Fish and Wildlife Area is situated in Starke County at the junction of the Yellow River with the Kankakee River.The state purchased 2,312 acres (9.36 km 2) of marshland in 1927 for a Works Progress Administration (WPA) transient camp.
Kankakee Sands is a 10,000-acre (4,000 ha) complex of tallgrass prairie and oak savanna restorations and remnants in Kankakee County, Illinois and Newton County, Indiana. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] It is managed by The Nature Conservancy staff and volunteers.
