Great Karimun (Indonesian: Karimun Besar), also known as Mawas Island, is one of the islands in the Riau Islands province of Indonesia, administratively part of Karimun Regency. It lies about 37 km southwest of Singapore , 54 km west of Batam , 24 km northeast of Rangsang Island and 32 km north of Kundur Island .
Besides the central island of Great Karimun, the regency also includes the island of Kundur and over 240 lesser islands. The district covers a land area of 1,339.9 km 2 and a sea area of 6,460 km 2 , and its population was 212,561 at the 2010 census [ 2 ] and 253,457 at the 2020 census; [ 3 ] the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 270,121.
