Howe Racing Enterprises was founded by former racing drivers Ed Howe. His son, Chas, also a former driver, now runs the business. Both drivers competed frequently in the American Speed Association National Tour as well as other oval racing series. Ed Howe founded his chassis manufacturing company in 1971 in his hometown of Beaverton, Michigan.
The Race of Champions Touring Series has grown to a family of stock car racing series on both dirt and asphalt including asphalt modifieds, dirt and asphalt sportsman, late models, super stock and the 4 cylinder dash. It was nominated for and won Best Touring Series on the 51's (which is an annual fan voted awards) for the 2017 season.
IMCA Modified is the top modified division sanctioned by the International Motor Contest Association. [1] The series began in 1979. It was designed to be a mid-level class between late models and hobby stocks. [2] The first IMCA modified race was held at the Benton County, Iowa Speedway in 1979 on a 1/4 mile track. [3]
NASCAR held a modified race as its first sanctioned event, on February 15, 1948, on the beach course at Daytona Beach, Florida. Red Byron won the event and 11 more races that year, and won the first NASCAR Modified Championship. The series began in 1989, NASCAR took over the series in 2005. During its time as a NASCAR sanctioned series it followed identical regulations to the Northern NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. [1]
