The Earth Prize is an environmental sustainability prize for secondary education students awarded by The Earth Foundation every year. [1] [2] [3] The Earth Prize was first launched in September 2021, and first awarded in March 2022. [4] The winner receives US$50,000, to be shared between the team members and their school or educational program.
The project does not charge membership fees. Several universities support the project financially, as does the Earth System Governance Foundation. This foundation is a "non-profit charitable organization under Dutch law, created to help channel support from a variety of sources to the earth system governance research community". [12]
Radiant Earth also works on a community of practice that develop standards, templates and APIs [6] around machine learning for Earth observation. According to scholar David Lindgren, the foundation "serves to make satellite imagery widely accessible and usable for development practitioners". [10]
