One measure of desiccant efficiency is the ratio (or percentage) of water storable in the desiccant relative to the mass of desiccant. Another measure is the residual relative humidity of the air or other fluid being dried. For drying gases, a desiccant's performance can be precisely described by the dew point of the dried product. [1]
Silica gel's high specific surface area—around 750–800 m 2 /g (230,000–240,000 sq ft/oz) [6] —allows it to adsorb water readily, making it useful as a desiccant (drying agent). Silica gel is often described as "absorbing" moisture, which may be appropriate when the gel's microscopic structure is ignored, as in silica gel packs or other ...
In 2005, Clariant announced the merger of four group companies into Colour-Chem Ltd, and Colour-Chem Ltd was renamed as Clariant Chemicals India Ltd in 2006. [7] [8] [2] In 2022, Clariant Chemicals India Ltd was renamed to Heubach Colorants India Ltd, after Clariant sold its pigments business to Heubach Group and SK Capital Partners. [9] [10]

A desiccant is a hygroscopic (attracts and holds water) substance that induces or sustains such a state in its local vicinity in a moderately sealed container. The word desiccation comes from Latin de- 'thoroughly' and siccare 'to dry'.
The compound is used as a desiccant (to keep things dry by adsorbing water from the air) and as a filter of fluoride, arsenic and selenium in drinking water. It is made of aluminium oxide (alumina; Al 2 O 3). It has a very high surface-area-to-weight ratio, due to the many "tunnel like" pores that it has.
Tata Chemicals Limited is an Indian multinational corporation with interests in chemicals, crop protection and specialty chemistry products. [3] The company is headquartered in Mumbai and has operations across India, Europe, North America and Africa. [4] Tata Chemicals is a part of the Tata Group and its shares are traded on the NSE and BSE. [5]
A 50–60% aqueous solution of lithium bromide is used in air-conditioning systems as desiccant. It is also used in absorption chilling along with water (see absorption refrigerator ). Solid LiBr is a useful reagent in organic synthesis .
