As a census division in the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Lennox and Addington County had a population of 45,182 living in 17,891 of its 20,094 total private dwellings, a change of 5.4% from its 2016 population of 42,883.
Greater Napanee municipality was created by amalgamating the old Town of Napanee with the townships of Adolphustown, North and South Fredericksburg, and Richmond in 1999. Greater Napanee is co-extensive with the original Lennox County. The town is home to the Allan Macpherson House, a historic 1826 property that is now a museum.

The first sawmill was built in 1818 on the Napanee River by Abel Scott at a site upstream of the present town. [2] [3] He sold the rights to the mill to Samuel Clark who moved it to the location we now know as Camden East, and added a wool mill and a grist mill. The community was then called Clark's Mills. In 1832, the post office was built.
