Rovaniemi railway station is located in Rovaniemi, Finland. The line from the south opened in 1909, and was extended to Kemijärvi in 1934. It features direct daytime and overnight passenger trains to Oulu , Tampere , Helsinki and Turku ; as of March 2014 the overnight train provided the only passenger service north to Kemijärvi.
At the end of winter 2014, VR was operating one daily overnight passenger train (with sleeping cars) from Kemijärvi to and from Helsinki Central railway station. For the 2024-2025 winter holiday season a weekly day train is run as a continuation from Rovaniemi. This extension was funded by Kemijärvi and neighbouring munincipalities. [4]
