The International Federation of Trade Unions (also known as the Amsterdam International) was an international organization of trade unions, existing between 1919 and 1945. IFTU had its roots in the pre-war IFTU. IFTU had close links to the Labour and Socialist International. [1] The IFTU was opposed by the Communist-controlled trade unions.

Jan Oudegeest (5 August 1870 – 10 October 1950) was a Dutch trade unionist and politician. Born in Utrecht, Oudegeest worked on the railways and in 1898 founded the Dutch Association of Railway and Tramway Employees (NV), and became the first union's chair. In this role, he led a major strike in 1903, but afterward decided against strike action.
