Lakeside is in the western foothills of the Cuyamaca Mountains. According to the United States Census Bureau, Lakeside has a total area of 7.3 square miles (19 km 2). 6.9 square miles (18 km 2) of it is land and 0.4 square miles (1.0 km 2) of it (5.22%) is water.
