Dumbo is a 1941 American animated fantasy drama film produced by Walt Disney Productions and released by RKO Radio Pictures. The film is based upon the storyline written by Helen Aberson and Harold Pearl, and illustrated by Helen Durney for the prototype of a novelty toy ("Roll-a-Book").
Dumbo must act as more than disabled: a “supercrip”. “Supercrips are people who conform… by overcoming disability and becoming more ‘normal’, in a heroic way”.[5] Dumbo’s worth then is measured by his ability to fit in and provide services to the able-bodied characters, a troubling portrayal of disability.
"Pink Elephants on Parade" is a song and scene from the 1941 Disney animated feature film Dumbo in which Dumbo and Timothy Q. Mouse, having accidentally become intoxicated (through drinking water spiked with champagne), see pink elephants sing, dance, and play musical instruments during a hallucination sequence.
Later that year, Dumbo became a big success, the first for Disney since Snow White. The critically acclaimed film brought in much-needed revenue and kept the studio afloat. A few months after Dumbo was released in 1941, the United States entered the war after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

In 1938, Stallings directed the Silly Symphonies short Merbabies, [2] and worked in story development for the Disney studios on the feature films Fantasia (1940), Dumbo (1941), Bambi (1942) and Song of the South (1946). Also for Disney, he wrote the Uncle Remus and His Tales of Br'er Rabbit comic strip from 1946 to 1963. [3]
October 23: Ben Sharpsteen, Norman Ferguson, Wilfred Jackson, Bill Roberts, Jack Kinney and Samuel Armstrong's Dumbo, produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, is first released. It becomes a surprise box office hit, helping Disney win back some of their financial losses caused by World War II cutting off their European market.
Dumbo was on VHS in 1991 to celebrate the film's 50th anniversary, which was in theaters October 23, 1941, which is Wednesday in 1991 & nothing ever happens Wednesday. The nearest release date towards that date is September 20, 1991, the same day The Rescuers Down Under came out, so the 1991 VHS of Dumbo came out that date.
