I can’t verify but it seems to bring up the variant with the best image quality. I've only ever used bootlegmage.com for proxies, but everything I've ordered has been incredibly good. I was honestly blown away by the quality. I use the site to make PDFs I then print on thick photo-paper.

A print run of around 200 million cards (not counting foreign FWB or FBB versions) is also what my numbers suggest. That would mean if you assume a boosters/starter ratio of 75/25 about 100.000 rares of each type were printed. Another source is a Duelist issue which claims the print run was 300 million cards.

Just select the 3 dot menu for whatever deck you want to print and choose "get proxies", if you have some cards already in your collection you can uncheck those cards before you print.

It fetches the 300DPI PNGs from Scryfall and can put them in PDFs or print them directly. It can also directly fetch deck lists from various sources, by simply inputting the URL.
r/mpcproxies is where you want to go. Magic cards are 2.5 x 3.5 inches. If you want to make your own, you can blank cards with acetone, and either print onto stickers and apply them, or print directly onto the card, with a bunch of work and practice. Older sets are easier to blank, and older foils, depending on the set are the easiest.
