Modern Poetry in Translation is a literary magazine and publisher based in the United Kingdom. The magazine was started by Ted Hughes and Daniel Weissbort in 1965. [1] It was relaunched by King's College London in 1992. [2] The college published it until 2003. [2] It publishes contemporary poetry from all around the world, in English.
In 1965, with Ted Hughes, Weissbort founded the magazine Modern Poetry in Translation (MPT) which he edited for almost 40 years. [2] In the early 1970s, he went to the USA where he directed, for over thirty years, the Translation Workshop and MFA Program in Translation [3] at the University of Iowa.
Beowulf: A New Verse Translation (also known as Heaneywulf [1]) is a verse translation of the Old English epic poem Beowulf into modern English by the Irish poet and playwright Seamus Heaney. It was published in 1999 by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux and Faber and Faber , and won that year's Whitbread Book of the Year Award .
Together with Richard Pevear she translated into English some poetry and prose by her brother, Anri Volokhonsky (published in: Modern Poetry in Translation, New series. Ed. Daniel Weissbort. Vol 10, Winter 196, Grand Street, Spring 1989, ed. Ben Sonnenberg).

Francis R. Jones, 2013. Dr Francis R. Jones (born 1955 in Wakefield, UK) is a poetry translator [1] and Reader in Translation Studies at Newcastle University.He is currently Head of the Translating and Interpreting Section of the School of Modern Languages at Newcastle.
He was awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry in 2020. [6] [7] He is a translator of Hölderlin, Brecht, Goethe, Kleist, Michaux and Jaccottet. In 2024 he published A Bird Called Elaeus, his translation and arrangement of poems from the Greek Anthology. [8] He won the Popescu Prize for translation in 2003 [9] and was shortlisted in 2015. [10]
Her books include Yenilgi Oyunu, the 2005 Cemal Sureya Poetry Award winner, and Mi Bemol. Semi Circle, a chapbook of her poems translated into English, was published in the United States in 2016, and "Selected Poems" (2017, Macedonian-English-Turkish) in Macedonia, "Selected Poems" (2019, Dutch-English-Turkish) in Belgium.
