The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) is a public academic health science center in Houston, Texas, United States. In 1969, the University of Texas Medical School at Houston was simultaneously authorized with the Texas Tech University School of Medicine by the Texas Legislature [3] to address the projected state and national shortages of physicians. [1] In 1972, the school joins the newly formed University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

The school's main campus is located in Houston's famed Texas Medical Center. It originally occupied rented and borrowed space in the Medical Center but today it occupies its own building plus regional campuses [ 6 ] in San Antonio , El Paso , Dallas , Brownsville , and Austin .
