William Purcell Witcutt (1908–1972) was a notable British religious minister, folklorist and author. He was born into the Anglican church, converted to Catholicism in the early 1930s, and returned to the Church of England in the mid-1950s.
Purcell was born in or near to Norwich on 22 January 1912. [1] Purcell was educated at Norwich School and Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge and ordained in 1938. [ 2 ] After a curacy in Headingley , Yorkshire he was raised to the position of a Minor Canon of Ripon Cathedral in that county.

[ 2 ] [ 3 ] He was a member of the North Carolina General Assembly representing the state's twenty-fifth Senate district, including constituents in Anson , Richmond , Scotland and Stanly counties 1997–2013.
