The Pennyroyal Plateau or Pennyroyal Region, often spelled Pennyrile, [1] is a large physiographic region of Kentucky that features rolling hills, caves, and karst topography in general. It is named for Hedeoma pulegioides (the American pennyroyal), a wild mint that grows in the area.

Mentha pulegium, commonly (European) pennyroyal, or pennyrile, also called mosquito plant [2] and pudding grass, [3] is a species of flowering plant in the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. [4] Crushed pennyroyal leaves emit a very strong fragrance similar to spearmint.

On January 15, 1786, the Virginia General Assembly passed an act establishing the town of Smithfield on land owned by John Smith II and William Smith. A post office was established in 1806; and since there was another town called Smithfield in the state, a different name was needed to avoid confusion.
Prince is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fayette County, West Virginia, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 116. [2] Located at an altitude of 1,263 feet (385 m), [3] it is served by an Amtrak station. [4] The community was named after William Prince, an early settler. [5]
