Robert Lee Holden Jr. (born August 24, 1949) is an American politician who served as the 53rd governor of Missouri from 2001 to 2005. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as the Missouri state treasurer from 1993 to 2001 and represented the 136th district in the Missouri House of Representatives from 1983 to 1989.
On election day, 3 November 1992, Democratic nominee Bob Holden won the election by a margin of 438,655 votes against his foremost opponent Republican nominee Gary Melton, thereby gaining Democratic control over the office of state treasurer. Holden was sworn in as the 42nd state treasurer of Missouri on 12 January 1993. [2]
