Quercus agrifolia, the California live oak, [3] or coast live oak, is an evergreen [4] live oak native to the California Floristic Province.Live oaks are so-called because they keep living leaves on the tree all year, adding young leaves and shedding dead leaves simultaneously rather than dropping dead leaves en masse in the autumn like a true deciduous tree. [5]
The leaves are variable, being 15–25 mm (5 ⁄ 8 –1 in) long and flat on young trees and shaded lower branches in older trees. The leaves are scalelike, 5–10 mm ( 1 ⁄ 4 – 3 ⁄ 8 in) long on shoots in full sun in the upper crown of older trees, with a full range of transition between the two extremes.
The leaves are green, and lighter on the underside. [8] The bark and leaves have a pungent scent resembling camphor when bruised, [8] due to a chemical known as umbellulone. [6] The leaves are entire and lance-shaped about 3–10 centimetres (1.2–3.9 in) long. They may substitute for the Mediterranean bay leaf in cooking.
In the fields of horticulture and botany, the term deciduous (/ dɪˈsɪdʒu.əs /) [1][2] means "falling off at maturity" [3] and "tending to fall off", [4] in reference to trees and shrubs that seasonally shed leaves, usually in the autumn; to the shedding of petals, after flowering; and to the shedding of ripe fruit.

It typically is multi-trunked, with a crown as broad as it is high. Trees are long lived, with an estimated lifespan between 250–280 (300 maximum) years. The leaves are dark green, palmately ...
Knobcone pine (Pinus attenuata) Ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa): well known in mountains. Lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta): used for early construction of buildings and other structures. Monterey pine (Pinus radiata): naturally limited endemic range; widely planted horticulturally around the world.
Most Catalpa are deciduous trees; they typically grow to 12–18 metres (40–60 ft) tall, with branches spreading to a diameter of about 6–12 metres (20–40 ft). They are fast growers and a 10-year-old sapling may stand about 6 metres (20 ft) tall. They have characteristic large, heart-shaped leaves, which in some species are three-lobed.
