Mine have Hill's Science Food. The cats I have now aren't seniors (but are fat and are on the low-cal one), but previous elderly cats have eaten the Hill's Senior and they were fine on it. Hill's is expensive but I think it's worth it. Supermarket cat food such as Meow Mix is the equivalent of feeding your cat Doritos for every meal.
Best answer: You're doing the right thing by feeding canned food, but you can definitely do better than Friskies. Merrick Cowboy Cookout is the "perfect mouse" in its nutrient profile and available in 3.2 ounce cans (link is to where I buy it, and PFD does have a subscription program).
Re-reading a bit - could there be a space issue? Tor is a very long/tall cat and drinks at least a quart every 2 days. He uses 3 boxes, the first 2 were setup while I had 2 cats (1) a 22x16x11 inch container (rubbermaid or sterilite) as a litter box because... well, he used to aim over the side - this is the box he pees in.
My cats have been eating Taste of the Wild Rocky Mountain dry food, but it turns out it is stocked with peas and sweet potatoes and I'm trying to get away from legumes and potatoes in their food. Do you have any recommendations for a legume-free, potato-free, and ideally grain-free high-protein dry cat food? Ideally a price point at ~$2.50/lbs ...
The cat gets the canned food either in the morning or evening. Evening is better since once cats learn breakfast is wet food they can be insistent about waking you up for feeding. So to avoid the bossy morning cat, give the wet food at night. Wet food is good, wetter food is better.
Unwanted Stuff On My Cat. My cat had something on his fur, near his left rear thigh, that looked like a slug. It was about an inch long and 3-5mm wide, black, and shiny. He is a fraidy cat who will not tolerate being touched. He only just tolerates playing chases with a piece of string, so I spent some time with him this morning doing just that ...
If you really want a dry food that is the best you can do for your cat, Wysong Epigen 90. One thing that seems to work for loose stools is a teaspoon of canned pumpkin every day. What is important is that you take care to notice changes in your cat, and get the cat looked at when something does change.
This dog's Sunday dinner was a few sausages, including all the grease from the pan he could get as it went in the dishwasher. For like 15 years. I think your cat will be fine. Cats are pretty good at letting you know when they are not fine. posted by fontophilic at 7:50 PM on March 11, 2012 [2 favorites]
It is disgusting. I am talking cat litter spread across the carpet and the kitchen floors, filth ground in across every surface in the bathroom, shit and urine on the toilet and around the toilet base, mould growing in the kitchen. Every surface had a tacky sticky dusty layer of dirt on it. It stank.
1. Having to change at work (unless your clothes can be smelled from 3 feet away by a non-cat-owner) 2. Frequent dry cleaning. posted by flimflam at 11:25 AM on August 6, 2013 [3 favorites] I agree with the other mefites that say your coworker's allergic reaction could be caused by something other than your cats.
