Rebecca Cheptegei, a distance runner who finished at the 44th position in the 2024 Paris Olympics, was attacked in her house in the western Trans Nzoia County.
Rebecca Cheptegei was born on the Kenyan side of the Kenya–Uganda border on 22 February 1991 [1] [2] [3] to Joseph and Agnes Cheptegei [4] and was the second of 13 siblings. [5] Her ancestral village was Bukwo in Uganda. She later moved to the village of Chepkum in Kenya [1] and bought property there to be closer to athletic training centres. [6]
The Ugandan marathon runner had competed in the women's marathon at the 2024 Paris Olympics, finishing in 44th place with a season's best time of 2:32:14, just a month before the fatal attack.
