At Christmas time, Santa came to the mall's center. By January 15, 2018 the Cinemark Dollar Cinema had ceased operation. The mall officially closed its mall portion to the public on August 11, 2019, with many of the remaining tenants inside the building following suit. When H-E-B moved, Texas Gold Stamp center also owned by H-E-B took its place as an anchor store. JCPenney moved to Padre Staples Mall (now La Palmera) in 1970.

The station was originally launched on June 20, 1954, as KVDO-TV, broadcasting on channel 22 as the Corpus Christi market's first television station. [2] Owned by Coastal Bend Television, KVDO was a primary affiliate of the DuMont network, [3] but carried secondary affiliations with NBC until KRIS-TV took the air in May 1956, CBS until KZTV signed on in September 1956, [4] and ABC.
