Alpha Sigma Tau (known as ΑΣΤ or Alpha Tau) is a national sorority founded November 4, 1899, at Eastern Michigan University (formerly Michigan State Normal College). A member of the National Panhellenic Conference, the sorority has 78 active collegiate chapters at colleges and universities around the U.S. and over 65,000+ lifetime members.

In 1917, Pi Kappa Sigma and Delta Sigma Epsilon joined the association, followed by Theta Sigma Upsilon in 1925, Alpha Sigma Tau in 1926, and Pi Delta Theta in 1931. At the third biennial conference, the name of the association was changed to the Association of Educational Sororities.
Alpha Sigma Alpha is one of the "Farmville Four" sororities founded at the university, which includes Kappa Delta, Sigma Sigma Sigma, and Zeta Tau Alpha. A clock tower at the university campus with a clock face representing each sorority is dedicated to the four.
Alpha Tau Sigma Fraternity was a professional medical fraternity founded in 1912 at the American School of Osteopathy, now the private A.T. Still University , in Kirksville, Missouri . [ 1 ] Its founders were Charles W. Barnes, W. S. Giddings, E. E. Loose, E. E. Ruby, and W. C. Warner [ 1 ]
In Ohio Marietta's catalogue (1933), the sorority is listed as "Sigma Sigma Delta National Open Sorority" (p. 23) By 1938, all chapters had dissolved or disaffiliated. Northwestern's went to Phi Omega Pi. Baldwin-Wallace's reorganized as local Theta Tau Delta, then affiliated with Phi Mu. The sorority's official colors were green and white.
Sigma Tau was founded at the University of Nebraska on February 24, 1904 by fourteen faculty members and students in the College of Engineering. Sigma Tau merged with Tau Beta Pi on January 1, 1974 .
