An Estoppey D-1 in the bomb aiming window of a Martin MB-2 bomber. In this case, the sight is rotated to the right to account for wind. The Estoppey D-series was a line of inter-war era bombsights developed by Georges Estoppey of the US Army Air Corps' McCook Field, starting with the D-1 of 1922.

SOCET SET inputs digital aerial photographs, taken in stereo (binocular) fashion, and from those photos it automatically generates a digital elevation model, digital feature (vector data), and orthorectified images (called orthophotos). The output data is used by customers to create digital maps, and for mission planning and targeting purposes.
Once set, the bomb aimer uses the rear sights, or any other convenient part of the bombsight, as a reference location and spots past them through the drift wires. Although these are now angled several degrees to the right, the wind to the right is pushing the aircraft so its final motion is along the wires.
The current version of the sight is the PSO-1M2. This telescopic sight is different from the original PSO-1 only in that it lacks the now obsolete infrared detector, which was used to detect generation-zero active-infrared night vision devices like the US M2 Sniperscope. The metal body of the PSO-1 is made from a magnesium alloy.
The hand controller is located at the LSO workstation. A handle is provided so the LSO may select the position of the meatball. The pickle switch is attached to the end of the controller handle. As the handle on the LSO controller is moved up or down it lights three or four consecutive lamps in the light box thus providing a meatball. Repeaters
